About Dr. Cronin

Dr. Michael J. Cronin is a graduate of National College of Naturopathic Medicine class of 1980. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine integrated with Family Practice at Portland Naturopathic Clinic at NCNM. Dr. Cronin is the founder of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and its president from 1992 to 1997. Dr. Cronin is a past vice-president of the Naturopathic Physicians Acupuncture Academy and a founding board member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Naturopathic Academy of Therapeutic Injections. He is a diplomat of the American Association of Pain Management.

Dr. Michael Cronin has been practicing Naturopathic medicine in Arizona since 1982. His practice in Scottsdale, Arizona includes family practice and environmental medicine but emphasizes naturopathic physical medicine. He treats chronic pain with prolotherapy, regenerative injection therapy using Autologous Platelet Concentrate, manipulation and spinal decompression integrated into a naturopathic treatment program. Dr Cronin utilizes diagnostic ultrasound in his musculoskeletal assessment and for ultrasound guided injections.

Dr. Cronin works with his patients by listening intently to their health story. He knows that patients have an intrinsic sense about their health that is essential to designing a therapy program that addresses the cause of their problem in the most direct manner. Dr. Cronin has a hands-on approach that includes soft tissue manipulation, spinal manipulation, and rehabilitative exercise to align and stabilize the physical structure of the body. He integrates visualizations and health affirmations into the patient’s healing plan to enhance their mental, emotional and physical health.

Dr. Cronin is co-author of “Herbal Solutions for Healthy Living,” Herbal Research Publications, Brevard, NC 2001 and a contributor to “Naturopathic Physical Medicine” by Churchill Livingston Publishing.

Medical Training - Dr. Cronin received the N.D. degree, Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, in 1980 from National College of Naturopathic Medicine, the oldest naturopathic college in the US. He completed a residency in family practice/physical medicine at Portland Naturopathic Clinic. He received training in prolotherapy from the Naturopathic Academy of Therapeutic Injections. Dr. Cronin received his BS in Human Biology from Kansas Newman College in Wichita, Kansas.

Licensure - Dr. Cronin is licensed as a Naturopathic Medical Doctor with the State of Arizona since 1982. He is a founding board member and faculty of the Naturopathic Academy of Therapeutic Injections.

Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine
In 1992, Dr. Cronin founded the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and was president for the first 5 years. This 4-year program was established to meet the growing demand for naturopathic physicians trained in providing truly integrative healthcare in a family practice delivery model. The college was established as a nonprofit corporation and has been accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education, which is approved by the Department of Education. In the first year the college found and remodeled a temporary campus, recruited a faculty, designed an innovative curriculum, and most important of all recruited a class of 30 students. The Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center was established 2 years later in a new 4200 sq ft center with an established patient base built from the personal practice of Dr. Cronin and his wife. A 7 acre permanent campus was purchased, remodeled and occupied in the fourth year of operation. During this time $1.8 million was raised by Dr. Cronin and the board. The SCNM research center was also established at this time. SCNM has its home in Tempe, Arizona and graduates Naturopathic physicians trained in the full scope of Naturopathic medicine including prescription privileges.

American WholeHealth
From 1997 to 2000 Dr. Cronin worked as the Director of Integrative Medicine for American WholeHealth. In 3 years clinics were established in Chicago, Boston, Bethesda MD and Denver. Dr. Cronin was directly involved with training MD’s and DO’s in nutrition, nutraceuticals, natural therapies and implementing the concept of the healing path, an individualized treatment plan for patients that is a core concept of American WholeHealth’s integrative approach to medicine. He and John Reed, MD worked with chiropractors, acupuncturists and nutritionists on proper charting, coding and communication with the medical team. They developed a Physician Orientation and Training Course with a manual, video and audiotapes.
Dr. Cronin was also the Senior Medical Director for American WholeHealth Networks, an insurance company providing coverage for chiropractic, naturopathic, acupuncture, massage and other alternative healthcare providers. His team developed credentialing criteria for over 20 alternative medicine practitioners and designed treatment criteria and utilization management algorithms for insurance benefits covering naturopathic physicians, acupuncturists and massage therapists.

Dr Cronin is a board member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a board member of the Naturopathic Academy of therapeutic Injections and a board member of the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association and chair of its legislative committee.

Biographical - Dr Cronin and his wife, Dr. Kyle Hawk Cronin and their 3 sons live in Cave Creek, Arizona where they hike, mountain bike, ride horses, kayak, play chess and video games.
